Meet the Instructor

Rick Raney brings 40 years of invaluable experience in the industry, a tradition that has been passed down through three generations in his family. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Jack Raney and his father, Paul Raney, who both made a lifetime career as a pipeline welder. Rick has traveled across the United States contributing to various pipeline companies. Throughout his career, he has excelled as a welding foreman and a welding inspector. Now, Rick is passionate about sharing his knowledge and expertise to help others succeed in the pipeline welding trade.

Family Tradition

For three generations, our family has lived by the blue arc of a welding rod, passing down a legacy of craftsmanship that has helped build the nation's energy backbone. It began with my grandfather, Jack Raney, in the 1950's, a master welder who had his own shop creating and building projects for local farmers. My father, Paul Raney was taught the essential skills of welding  from my grandpa and turned his focus on pipeline welding. His era started in 1960's and lasted through the 1980's. In 1983 through 2025 I carried on this "bloodline" tradition, blending their foundational grit of the blue arc of a welding rod to ensure every joint is durable and leak free. My youngest brother, Randy Raney followed in the family footsteps in the 1990's.  For us, pipelining is more than a trade; it is a shared identity that binds our past to the vital energy systems of the future. Mentorship in this field is vital for bridging the gap between theoretical training and the high-stakes reality of the field, where experienced pipeliners pass on "life lessons, advice, and coaching" that go beyong just fusing metal. I am excited to help the future generation learn the trade of pipeline welding!
